Named After Former Principal Mike Williams
In 2020 Wylie ISD announced it name the new multi-purpose facility in honor of former high school principal Mike Williams. Matt Atkins, Wylie ISD Board President. “This cements your legacy in Wylie ISD and we look forward to seeing you in the stands.” There is a seat in the WIlliams center permanently reserved for Mr. Williams.
Mike Williams came to Wylie in 1998 and has held a variety of administrative positions at several campuses including WHS, Burnett Junior High, and Davis Intermediate. In 2007, he was tapped to open and lead Wylie East High School. He was instrumental in creating many of the traditions that Raiders know and love. For example, he always ended every address to students or community members with "It's a great day to be alive, and a great day to be a Raider!" Mr. Williams led the school from when it opened in 2007 with just 900 freshmen through to his retirement in 2020, when the school had grown to roughly 2000 Raiders.
Notable highlights of William’s tenure:
- academic successes including earning a 93 (“A” rating) and seven out of seven distinctions from the Texas Education Agency in 2018-2019
- numerous students that have earned National Merit Honors
- multiple students that have earned All-State in band and choir
- 2015 Lady Raider Soccer Team UIL State Championship
- Raider baseball’s run last year to the Regional Semi-Finals
- solar car team placing second in the national cross-country race
- footballs’ five playoff appearances in the first seven years of varsity competition
- girl’s basketballs’ four consecutive district championships

“It makes me very happy to see so many of my former students come back to Wylie ISD and serve as teachers to the next generation of Raiders and Pirates,” added Williams.
