Student Support Advocates (SSAs) at Wylie East High School
At Wylie East High School, the SSAs are dedicated to walking alongside students who are facing personal challenges or crisis. They provide immediate support, guidance, and connections to resources that help students navigate life’s difficult moments and return their focus to learning. SSAs are licensed mental health professionals who provide short-term, solution-focused support and crisis intervention. While they do not offer ongoing therapy, SSAs help students navigate immediate challenges and connect them with appropriate resources both within the school and in the community. The ultimate goal of an SSA is to support students’ mental health and emotional wellbeing so they can thrive in the learning environment.
The SSAs coordinate two invaluable campus programs: Beacons of Hope, training staff volunteers to serve as trusted adults for students experiencing distress or depression, and WYLIE ISD Mentor, pairing qualified district and community mentors with teens who benefit from and appreciate the guidance and consistency they provide. We also share tips, resources, and trends each month in the counselor newsletter which is emailed to all students and families as well as posted on the Counselor Facebook Page.
If you are experiencing a mental health or personal crisis which may include thoughts of suicide, a traumatic event, or overwhelming stress – go to your SSA. We will provide support and connect you with the right help. We are here for students and families, every step of the way.
